The Garden Route is a stretch of coastal land about three hundred km from Cape Town roughly starting at Mossel Bay and ending near Storms River. It is an area with hiking trails, valleys, lakes, protected parks, bays, mountainous scenery, historical sites and pristine beaches. Flower fanatics have a great time in South African early spring when all the wildflowers are blooming. You will pass pitoresque areas and towns such as Knysna, George, Nature's Valley and Tsitsikamma Forest and Coastal National Park. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in South Africa. It is easy to book tours and there are many hotels, bars and restaurants. During high season, July to November, it can be crowded at times, so book in advance.

The best known locations for diving are Mossel Bay, Knysna, Plettenberg Bay and inside the Tsitsikamma Marine Park. Whale viewing can be done in almost all bays, but Still Bay and halfway the St Blaize's hiking trail are some of the best spots to see them. There are also many touristic whale viewing tours that put you on a boat and search for whales out in the open ocean.
